What you'll need
Requirements vary depending on whether you're applying for a scholarship or self-funded, and by degree level. These are the core documents almost every route asks for.
Academic documents
- Highest diploma and full transcripts (notarized)
- Two academic recommendation letters
- A study plan or research proposal (500–1,500 words depending on level)
Identity & health
- Passport valid 12+ months past your intended start date
- Foreigner Physical Examination Form
- Non-criminal record certificate (most routes)
Language scores
- HSK Level 4+ for Chinese-taught programs
- IELTS 6.0+ or TOEFL 80+ for English-taught programs
- Some universities accept a lower level with a preparatory year
Scholarship-specific
- CSCA academic assessment score (bachelor's applicants, 2026/27 intake onwards)
- Supervisor pre-acceptance letter (strongly recommended for master's and PhD)
- JW201 or JW202 form (issued after acceptance, for student visa)
